After Your Acupuncture Treatment
By Nine Life Land Acupuncture
Updated March 2026
This guide supports your acupuncture treatment at Nine Life Land Acupuncture and helps you get the most benefit from each session. To continue the healing process and achieve lasting results, please follow these after-care guidelines:
Rest & Recovery
After acupuncture, your body continues to heal for several hours.
Gentle rest and relaxation allow this process to work more effectively and support both physical and emotional recovery.
Avoid Showering Immediately
Please avoid showering for 2–3 hours after treatment. If plum blossom needling was used, avoid showering for 24 hours to protect the skin and prevent irritation.
Stay Hydrated & Avoid Stimulants
Drink warm water after your session to support circulation and energy flow. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they may interfere with the healing process.
Nourish Your Body
Eat light, healthy meals and choose foods suited to your body type and the season. Your practitioner can provide personalised dietary advice if needed.
Use Heat, Avoid Cold
Acupuncture improves the flow of qi (energy) and blood, helping release blockages and promote healing.
Cold exposure — such as ice, cold showers, or cold drinks — may slow this process.
If you feel sore or tight, using a heat pad or hot water bottle on the area is highly recommended.
Be Patient with Your Body
Many patients feel immediate relief, while others notice continued improvement over the next 24–48 hours.
It is normal to feel deeply relaxed or slightly tired after treatment, and occasionally symptoms may temporarily intensify before settling.
If you have concerns, please speak with your practitioner so we can adjust your treatment plan as needed.
Continue Your Prescribed Medication
Do not stop any prescribed medication without consulting your GP. Acupuncture may support a gradual reduction of some medications over time, but this should always be done under medical supervision.
Safety & Comfort
Acupuncture is extremely safe when performed by qualified practitioners. We use sterile, single-use needles and follow strict clinical guidelines. Occasionally, a small bruise may appear at a needle site — this is normal, not painful, and usually resolves within a few days.
