Preparing for Your Acupuncture Treatment
By Nine Life Land Acupuncture
This guide supports your acupuncture treatment at Nine Life Land Acupuncture and helps you get the most benefit from each session.
To ensure a safe, comfortable, and effective experience, please take a moment to review the following guidelines before your appointment.
Eat Lightly
Please avoid coming to your appointment on a completely empty stomach or immediately after a heavy meal.
A light meal 1–2 hours beforehand is ideal. Balanced energy supports better treatment results.
Avoid Alcohol & Caffeine
Please do not drink alcohol or coffee before or after your treatment, as both can interfere with circulation, relaxation, and your body’s natural healing response.
Pain Assessment
If you are visiting for pain relief, it is important that we accurately assess your pain level and location.
Please avoid taking painkillers before your appointment if possible, as they may mask important symptoms.
Tongue & Pulse Diagnosis
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the tongue and pulse provide valuable information about your internal health.
You may be asked to show your tongue and have your pulse checked as part of your consultation. Please avoid colourful foods, heavy makeup, or lipstick beforehand, as they can interfere with this assessment.
Wear Comfortable Clothing
Loose-fitting clothing is recommended. Sleeves and pant legs may need to be rolled up to access certain acupuncture points around the elbows and knees.
Allow Time to Relax
Try not to schedule acupuncture immediately before or after intense physical activity or between two rushed commitments. Giving yourself time to relax enhances the effectiveness of treatment.
Share Your Health History
Your medical history, lifestyle, and emotional wellbeing are all important parts of TCM diagnosis.
Please feel comfortable sharing relevant information — it helps us design the most suitable treatment plan for you.
Create a Peaceful Environment
Please turn off or mute your phone (not on vibrate) during treatment. This allows your body and mind to fully relax and supports optimal healing.
Stay Hydrated
Please make sure you are not thirsty and have used the bathroom before your session. Drinking warm water before and after treatment helps support circulation and recovery.
About the Needles
Acupuncture needles are extremely fine — about the width of one to three strands of hair — and are much thinner than medical injection needles.
Most patients find treatment deeply relaxing, and many even fall asleep. The more relaxed you are, the better your body responds.
